Analog television - Analog(ue) television encodes television picture information as an analog signal, that is, by varying the voltages and/or frequencies of the signal. All systems preceding digital television can be considered analog.

Digital broadcasting - Digital broadcasting is the practice of using digital data rather than analog to transmit broadcasts over television or radio. It is becoming increasingly popular for television usage (especially satellite television) but is having a slower adoption rate for radio.

Digital cable - Digital cable is a term for a type of cable digital television that delivers more channels than possible with analog cable by using digital video compression. Digital cable also enables two-way communication, enabling services such as the ability to purchase pay-per-view programming without the use of a phone line.

Low-definition television - Low-definition television or LDTV refers to television systems that have a lower resolution than Standard Definition Television systems. The term is usually used in reference to digital television, in particular when broadcasting at the same (or similar) resolution as analog systems.
